Ants from bathroom skylight?
There is a infestation of winged ants coming from the bathroom skylight of our home. Some of them even come from the ceiling fan. Upon closer inspection the wood around the skylight is damaged. What is the best way to approach solving this issue? Pest control first, then fixing all the wood. Or do y...

Re: Bathroom Remodel
It's so beautiful! And being able to do it on a budget sounds wonderful! I had parts of my bathroom done by someone and the person was so rude about it saying "it's JUST a mobile home" and using very terrible materials and not giving me options. He was so condescending. I vowed to do more ...

Priming and Painting Walls
Hello. We had part of our bathroom redone and some of the drywall panels were replaced. I have mismatching walls (with the old one being covered in the vinyl (?) wallpaper and newer ones that are not covered in anything). Thinking of priming and painting all of them to match, but not sure how to go ...

Over $400 to get new vinyl for bathroom floor?
The repair guy is giving us an estimate of about $400 for new vinyl floor and underlayment for our master bathroom (about 6' x 9') Does that sound like a fair pricing to you or is it too much? I thought vinyl floors were not that expensive? Not sure if that includes the actual labor too? I just want...

Re: Wall/stud removal for water damage
Thanks for the info! Does this count as height change if it slants upwards like this? https://ibb.co/i4SgP5 Also, just realized that the screws on the sides and bottom are rusted and very hard to get out on it. Is there a way to get around this? Most of the damage is right where this wall is (top ce...

Wall/stud removal for water damage
This is the continuation of my bathroom renovation. I removed more drywall and did find that there is water damage also on the ceiling where the stack vent goes through: IMG_5394.JPG IMG_5393.JPG This illustration kind of shows what my bathroom is like. Can the studs outlined here in red be removed ...

Mold rings on sublfoor around plumbing?
I am in the process of replacing my tub, so you will probably see me posting frequently on here! I appreciate all the help thus far! One of the main cause of concerns was finding mold rings around the subfloor around all the plumbing-which indicates that all of it must be leaking or have some issue....

Re: Tub replacement continued
If I were to want a one piece (as in tub and surround are not separate) would there be any concerns other than fitting through the doorways? Sorry, I just REALLY want a one piece because I hate how no matter how "nice" other ones are there will always be water getting into the crevices and...

Tub replacement continued
Hello. I recently posted about a leak that caused damage to the drywall around the tub. I ended up taking the tub liner and tub out today seeing that the tub was basically a festering source of mold around the edges and was old anyways. This is what it looks like currently (took me a few hours...the...

Rotted wood
I just noticed that there is rotted wood around the edges just above the skirting. This is just beneath or alongside (?) the floor of my bedroom and the laundry room It easily falls apart with touch. I'm not sure what to do with it...any suggestions? picture showing where it is: IMG_5320.JPG Upclose...

Re: Water damage- shower/tub plumbing
I was discussing replacing the tub for a slightly smaller one piece one that isn't plastic, and the repair guy told me it would cost at least $1500. He even went further to tell me that I don't need to replace it...but that was prior to me asking this question and finding the real reasons behind the...

Re: Water damage- shower/tub plumbing
Thanks for your input! Upon closer examination I think I found the issues. The tub isn't a one liner-so there is the edge where the wall and tub meets that can easily come apart to let water in-especially when cleaning around that area where mildew built up is common. Caulk might fix it, but because...

Water damage- shower/tub plumbing
Hi all. I have water damage from what I presume to be the shower/tub plumbing leaking somewhere-and the dry wall around it has absorbed all the water and become moldy (although from the outside I couldn't tell at all at the beginning) . The carpet on the other side was also damp. But since taking ou...

Re: Pipe problem? Please help.
The house is about 10 years old. I live in a northern state, so it gets quite cold here.
Thank you so much for all the info.
