Re: Members what do you do to your waterlines in winter
As long as your water lines are ran in the underbelly and have some insulation below them and the underbelly sealed up good then you will be fine. Like I said the only time I've run into freezing pipes is when another part of my trailer was compromised. The underbelly, insulation, skirting, etc. I m...

Re: Members what do you do to your waterlines in winter
You should go buy a wireless thermometer and stick the sending unit under the trailer to monitor the temps down there. But even if it does drop below freezing you shouldn't be too worried as long as your heat tape is working. I'm looking at my outside temp right now and it's -2 with a high of 0 expe...

Re: floor register in bathroom problem
Our bathroom on the end of the house has an offset heat register. All our registers are in line except that one. It uses some 5" flex duct to get the air over to it.

Re: Trimming batten strips
To trim the batten strips to make room for your new molding use a simple hand chisel or an oscillating tool like posted above.

Re: Need advice to prevent another disaster
It might be worth it to buy a small air compressor and a cheap stapler to save your hands. I think harbor freight has a small compressor in the 40 dollar range and you can use a 20% off coupon. They should also have an air stapler for 10-20 bucks. Or even an electric stapler. I like to reward myself...

Re: Cracks along the wood the gutters attach to
Welcome to the forum. How far down from the roof are your gutters? Some pictures of your gutters and the cracks would really help. But based off what you said I would say some caulk in the cracks and then nail or screw the boards back tight.

Re: Need advice to prevent another disaster
I'm one state North of you and as long as my underbelly is intact with no holes my pipes will not freeze. And I have vented skirting so the cold can get in. So as long as your belly insulation and underbelly material is good you shouldn't have any issues. The only time I have had an issue was when a...

Re: Best way to cut holes on VOG walls?
Are you using a rectangle plastic box in the wall for the plates to screw to? A keyhole saw works great in drywall. They are 5-10 bucks at the store. You can find them in the drywall section. Otherwise there are a bunch of power tools that will get the job done. Rotozip, dremel, oscillating multi to...

Re: Building a new deck
Like already mentioned just call the city inspector and ask what they want you to do. I've built a whole house for a guy with nothing more then a simple permit, meaning they just wanted to know what we were building and collect a check. Then a couple towns over I needed a permit to build a deck, per...

Re: Attic Venting
Venting topics and the various facts and opinions that go with them are always interesting to me. Like I've said before on here it seems everyone has there own opinion on venting. Then there are those of us that have had to fix damage directly caused by not venting. JD posted one example about real ...

Re: Light switches that grip the back side of drywall
Those mobile home outlets and switches are horrible. I don't know how they are allowed to sell a home with them. I personally haven't had issues with the plastic tabs besides when they rip out of the drywall. But I have had issues with wires they stab in these devices. It doesn't make a good connect...

Re: Salvage Wet Insulation ?
The problem is even if the insulation is soaked with "clean" water it needs to dry out to avoid mold. This means taking off the drywall or opening up whatever cavity the insulation is in right away. A lot of the time you don't find the leak right away. Or don't get it dried out right away....

Re: Attic Venting
"Attics" should always be vented. Even if you have insulation all the way up to the roof sheathing you need to use those foam spacers to leave a space and allow air to flow from the eaves to the ridge. If you don't have any venting hot moist air forms in the attic and will cause moisture i...
