Re: Air cooled package A.C.
Wow that's a LOT of checking. I had turned the A.C. off Thursday night because I thought its running non-stop for two hours was a sign that something was wrong and I figured turning it off would prevent further damage. But today I talked to someone who said theirs runs non stop lately too so maybe i...

Re: The kind of A.C. units in motels
Having a heat pump included would be better yet!! To me the best part of using this type of unit would be - NO MORE DUCTWORK under the house to worry about. My ducts have been damaged by mice so I know at least some of my cool air is leaking. I don't use my furnace to heat the house in winter becaus...

Re: Air cooled package A.C.
I think it's a 10 seer. Last night I noticed it was running non-stop for a couple of hours and I only keep the house at 82 so I saw that as a warning sign and turned it off. I'll leave it off until after the servicing. If i can impose on you to answer another question - what should the technician do...

Re: Air cooled package A.C.
Thank you Robert. I wonder if after servicing my electric bill will go down. Hope so. I did not know if this type of machine needed routine service. Thanks again!!

The kind of A.C. units in motels
What is the name for the typical motel AC/heating unit in most motels? They are installed in the wall but are larger than a typical "window" unit. Usually they are installed low down, near the floor and have a lift up door for accessing the controls. What are they called and why don't we s...

Air cooled package A.C.
From what I can determine from info on the internet, I have an air cooled package A.C. unit. It is a large metal box that sits outside and has a big round fan in the top that blows air out. The only thing inside is the duct vents of course (in the floor) and a large floor grate where I change the ai...

RE: Window awning options
Hey - thanks for that web site, their prices are the best I've seen. When they say "open louver" do you think that means if you looked at them from an angle you could see through? If so maybe they won't work. About the aluminum strips - my problem (well one of them anyway) is that I live i...

RE: Window awning options
Meanwhile as I Googled terms like "make your own awnings" I came across a web site for a product called "Easyawn" http://www.easyawn.com/ and they sell the fabric on metal frame type for $120 each with free shipping. They say it takes one person an hour to install and five minute...

RE: Window awning options
I have two shutters in my shed that I ordered and when I went to put them up I realized I ordered the wrong size, they are an inch or so too short. Anyway I'm going to lay them on the deck together and get an idea of how the finished "awning" would look. I was looking online at mobile home...

RE: Window awning options
Yes! I like it!! I had thought of using one shutter mounted horizontally above the window as an awning. The shutters are so lightweight that the supports would only need be screwed into the shutters that flank each side of the window and then if there were a big wind that tore the awning shutter off...

RE: Window awning options
I do have the secondary "storm windows" installed so there's that air space in between the two panes of glass and it helps insulate. I think my main reasons for wanting awnings is to protect the windows from the elements and, just in case there are leaks, to protect the framing of the hous...

RE: Window awning options
I had the tint put on all my windows too (3M Shatterguard) but still there is a lot of heat and glare from the west. I have cotton shades up and they stop the glare but not the heat. Also though I was thinking since I have the el-cheapo mobile home windows they might fare better under the protection...

Window awning options
I was looking for ideas about window awnings for my mobile home. They need to be affordable but also removable or retractable so they don't get ripped off in case of hurricane. So far all the mobile home awnings I've seen do not adjust flat or come off easily. Then I was looking at RV window awnings...
