DE-construct corner fireplace

The fireplace has fake boulders/rocks around it. I would like to get rid of them. I'm wondering if these are attached to a wooden board and then attached to a frame. I would like to remove the rock face and just put up a smooth surface/ Then again the claims adjuster is going to be his in a few hours and check out the leaking roof and water pouring out through the fireplace. (we've NEVER used it) I hope they just 'total' the place.
