6 mil plastic as underbelly wrap?

Can I use 6 mil plastic to hold up the 6" insulation between the floor joists of our crawl space addition?

It's not recommended, You want a product that is breathable. You do not want any moisture trapped, that would cause a Mold or rot issue. At the very least I would use house wrap (Tyvec).
Plastic would be fine on the ground under the home to form a vapor/moisture barrier.

i put the 6 ml on the ground as a barrier, then i used a proper underbelly wrap, then insulation. Can i now put another 6ml or less on top of the insulation before laying the plywood floor which would hold my rug?

I guess you could, It's almost overkill.
