My furnace will not stay lit. When I try and light it, it works fine as long as I am feeding it the gas, but when I move the switch to on, it doesn't flicker, it just goes out.

While I was away, the wife had called a repair guy who said we had a cracked heat exchanger, I reached in and their definetely is a crack on the left hand side. Would this be the reasoning for the difficulty in staying lit? He also said that was a carbon monoxide hazard and would not relight it, and we had to buy a whole new furnace. Unfortunately, the guys reputation is less than stellar, so I wanted to know if;

a) The heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide hazard
b) The heat exchanger is the reason the pilot wont stay lit
c) Is it possible to buy a new heat exchanger, and where would you recommend?
d) If that isn't the problem, what is?

Your insight is much appreciated.

Hi,

A- Yes

B- No

C- Yes, from us, however, it would be more cost efficient to replace furnace as heat exchanger is usually $800+ .

D- Thermocouple bad most likely

Please call toll free to 1-877-263-7860 with furnace model number for prices.

Thanks,
Robert
