Re: Mobile home replumb + Water heater; $15,000 estimate
I wouldn't be able to comment on the electrical repairs or drain field, but I have a lot of experience with plumbing entire mobile homes and replacing all underbelly. Professional mobile home repairs for over 30 years. You could purchase all the PEx fittings, stop valves, corner supports, rings, etc...

Re: plumbing is a leaky roller coaster!
On smaller repairs, I buy the smallest cans. I always glue my fittings over a piece of cardboard, to control drips and spills. So if I am only doing a couple of fittings, with a new jar, I carefully pull the dobber out and dob it on the cardboard, rather than raking it across the opening. The stuff ...

Re: What to use to clean a TPO roof
I use a small Ryobi pressure washer. I think it is a 1700 cfm. Not the smallest one, but the next size up. Got it cheap on sale. Plenty strong enough. Easy to pack around. I use just water, no soap. If you had a bad mildew area, you could spray it with Simple Green from a bug sprayer, or douse the a...

Re: roof bows??'s
The 3/8" ply splint would be attached to the the original truss with adhesive and construction staples. I use PL polyurethane adhesive. My prference over any liquid nail product. Another edit: If the original roof panels are in good condition and have those plastic dividers every 16", they...

I have repaired ceilings like yours, at least a hundred times. I've been in the mobile home repair as an employee and then contractor for over 30 years. Reinforcing the trusses is one option. This would reguire replacing the ceiling panels with gypboard, or other type of panels, after the repair. Wh...

Re: Kitchen lighting---I want recessed though
I replaced my old cheapy type ceiling lights with 30W LED (150-Watt incandescent bulb equivolent) and it is like daylight! I was shocked at the difference.

Re: Steps for side door
If you are asking what a contractor would charge to build these steps, it would be considerably more. here in California, the land of high prices, a contractor would need to build the steps, a landing a railing. The landing would have to be wide enough for an outswing door (if you have one) to open ...

Re: Pics uploaded; New Subfloor, Lots of Gaps=Problem?
My biggest concern would be that there should be blocking where that gap a long the wall is. When you remove the particle board floor, there will be spans a long the walls and where your new plywood will lay, that will have no wood under it. All of these areas need to be blocked with 2x4 or 2x6, so ...

I would also check the level of the home, as that would most likely show you that this is a level problem. I have never worked on a mobile home with a basement, so I really do not have anything to offer, as far as a foundation inspection or solution. I have worked on a lot of newer homes, with textu...

Re: Cross-over Duct
I would recommend a stainless steel tie clamp. Looks like a hose clamp but huge. They will be right next to the duct product at your home store. Then seal everything with an hvac approved duct tape. Usually quite thin and won't hold anything, but it seals very well and lasts a long time. Duck tape, ...

Re: Questions about steel roof options for arched roof
There are a couple of problems with standard corrugated steel. All of the fasteners will need to be sealed with some type of roof sealant, polyurethane is a good choice. These fasteners will need frequent maintenance as expansion and contraction will loosen and tear sealants. Another problem is the ...

Re: Question for JD
I have never used Henry Tropic-Cool, so be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions. I know that sounds too simple, but it is the most common mistake I see, especially in regards to prep and number of coats. To be sure I am getting the right spread rate, I will use a chalk line and mark out a o...

A big hello to MizFurball2u, steelworkersgal, Jim from Canada and Greg. Anyone who remembers me has been a member here for quite a while. I have been mostly MIA for years. I still work on mobile homes but the majority of my free time is spent playing music in the band Featherbone and other music act...

Re: New Siding - Any Advice?
Having been in the mobile home repair business for 31 years, I have probably installed every common type of siding available. In the old days, I even installed the aluminum flat panel mesa ribbed siding that was standard back in the day. My personal opinion is, HardiePanel or Smartside is the best w...
