Re: Perimeter Pier vs. Adjustable Outrigger
if you have the ground shift, you are going to twist the house some no matter what you have suporting it.
are you going to run a pier down the middle too?

Re: Solar is cheaper than you think
hate to say it, but well off people usually get that way by not wasting money.
the current move toward showing how it can make sense is the smartest route, but you've got to be honest with people about the expensed involved and the realistic results, or you'll loose future investors.

Re: resetting existing bathtub
pretty sure a tankless toilet will require a much larger water suply line than you have. a wall mount unit would probably be much more weight than your walls could handle. You might be able to do a tankless if you have it conected by a large diameter pipe to a well pressure acumilator (a water holdi...

Re: Hurricane window coverings
I thought the standard for huricane quick attach was lag studs. studs with a stand tread on one end and a wood thread on the other end. then wing nuts and washers to hold the plywood down.

Re: Mobile Home Exterior
The one I'm fixing has had its siding replaced with vynil. its not holding up well. I plan on replacing with T111 wood panneling. I'd probaly just continue what ever siding you choose down for skirting since you are planning on making it permanent. just uses presure trated lumber or concrete for wer...

Re: big lump in kitchen big in spring low almost gone in win
When you say the lump is formed by a beam, do you meen a wooden joist or the I beams that make up th frame? I'm guessing you are talking about a wooden transvers floor joist. wood will move when humidity and temperature changes, my guess is that there is a big knot towards on of the edges of the joi...

Re: replacing back door
cut a sheet of plywood the correct size, and screw it to the door. this way your door will last untill you can do the siding and pay to get a "real" door installed. my guess is it will be a somewhat major job to do what you want. I am doing now what you are considering. There is all sorts ...

Re: Flattening, and sealing particle board sub-floor
Marine grade goes for $60+ a sheet when I looked into it the particle board may hold moisture next to the T&G, but if its dry, I don't see how it would re-wet. As you are putting a stonger floor over a weaker floor, I dont see a problem with even just cutting those spots right out. and leaving a...

sounds like a ton of damage. Have they decided not to "total it" yet, or are you still waiting for that decision?
I wouldn't leave any house for 3 weeks without shutting off the water.

Re: electrical problem
what I've been seeing in a similar vintage trailer is its all in the walls with some in the ceiling. I've seen no wireing in the floor. The only thing in the floor is drain pipes, gas lines, and heating ducts. I cant say I'm a fan of the factory electrical work. The in-wall black tape splices (no bo...

Re: Repairs Worth It?
the frame is 2 nice long I beams to hold up a roof, and the floor joists could be rafters It would be a start. Actually in my case, I was considering doing that for a big garage, but I think I'll be better off fixing up the house. now if only can get a dry weekend to finish ripping out my wall! I am...

Re: Siding replacment options
I am leaning toward T111 wood panneling. The fact that wour hardboard only made it a decade is making me more sure to not choose that option. The cement stuff needs special tools to cut and makes lots of dust I hear. Vynil siding without backing will let air through, and the sheeting would weigh as m...

stupidest idea ever!
I don't know how common this is in the mobile home industry, but what I found when taking out some rotting floor reallt blew my mind. to build the home, they first built the floor, with crapeting, then put the exterior walls, then interior walls. I don't really have a problem with that. what I could...
