I see that my previous post concerning this topic has been locked. ??????
Here is the update. The HVAC company came out and inspected the unit. They said that the outside unit was old and rusted out (about 15 years old and close to the Gulf). Also, they needed to replace the inside AC coil because the SEER of the outside unit would not match up with the inside coil. ??????? Heating unit looked good. The cost is $1900. What do you think?
The finally cost was $1990 which included the inside and outside units, labor, and taxes. I think it is a fair price from what I have seen in other posts. What do you think?
Oh, I forgot. Was the HVAC company being straight when they said that they had to replace both the inside and outside units because of the SEER of the newer units?
A 13 SEER unit can be hooked to a older coil by using a expansion valve BUT you will not have a 13 SEER machine and you better know exactly what you are doing. I recommend a new indoor coil on all 13 SEER and up units. The company was correct .
