Thank you Ms VG. It's all experimental at this point but we're pretty happy with it so far.

DigitalDreams idea of anti freeze buckets is a good one,I'd just like run sumthin by Ya'All....How about filling the black buckets with next year's compost or any black soil?? Might cook the dirt to kill weed seeds and bugs/larvae/mold/,,sterilize it to a clean slate I guess. Is'nt that part of what a compost heap does anyway?. Might kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
It wouldn't be enough for a bigger operation but might help nonetheless.

We're going to pile fresh cow manure on the back side of the greenhouse in the fall to help heat it during the late fall months and again in the early spring. Since we're out in the country with no neighbors, we can do that. The fresh cow manure will heat up for about a month and some of that heat will radiate through the back wall. Should do a lot more than a few buckets full could.

Yepper,,a few buckets could go a long ways for a smaller operation tho,,especially for starting in flats and such with the intent of transplanting to indoor containers one time before the final planting.. A body could "cook" next years soil this year and so on. Just a thought anyhow.

Dean small problem with filling buckets with compost instead is:
1:Compost is decomposing matter which usually stinks.
2:Decomposing matter tends to let off methane and other noxious
smells, some which if in area of flame explode or at least burn well, so
no smoking in the green house.
3:Water holds at least 3 times as much heat as dirt aka compost.
