Ceiling Help ?

While fixing the Vent pipe problem I had I tore the ceiling panels out of the kitchen. going to replace them anyways , I noticed that the roof metal does not touch the rafters, even though it has water damage everything seems solid.

Is there something missing, or is something to appear to be out of sort ??

Factory metal roofing is just laid over the joists and attached along the outer edges, So it is possible and likely that there is a gap. As long as there is no leak, I wouldn't worry about it. Greg
